A Little Progress

Real life has been very busy lately so bench time has been limited but I have managed to get the Supacat base sorted and began painting the figures for the Brennus.

The Supacat base will be very simple and without a figure as I've nothing suitable so this shouldn't take long to sort out.

The Brennus figures are from Blast and are not too bad. I don't like the cast on mics however as they never really look right and need some careful painting too. The main uniform colours are on so it's time to get the flesh areas sorted before some shadows and highlights go on. I still need to find a suitable base for the model as well so I can wrap this build up as well.

St George's Day

A day to celebrate being English and be proud of it for a change I think.

Gecko Supacat Almost Done

More work on the model with all the lights added followed by some ratchet straps to secure the load using tamiya tape and Djitis productions ratchet strap set. Lastly the mirrors went on before the model was given a very light spray with heavily thinned tamiya buff & flat earth mix. Final weathering was done with a small amount of VMS No4 dull sand pigments.

I will now begin building up a small base for this as well as perhaps a bergan and a few other bits to go with the model.

Airfix Tractor

Well the model is now built and it's now waiting for a blast of primer. I did spot a mistake during the final stages which caught me out slightly. Following the instructions it shows part A27 fixed to the transmission housing on stage 27 of the build. In fact it should be glued to part A18 which is the steering gearbox. I did wonder why the steering linkage was too long!

Airfix USAAF Military Tractor

Next on the bench and almost finished is this very nice little tractor boxed by Airfix. It's actually a re-box of the Thunder models kit. The detail is superb and the build is super quick as well. There is a small etched fret with treadplates and the instrument panel in the kit as well. You get two marking options, one USAAF and one civilian.

The only extras needed are some cables and wires for the engine and a fan belt as well. I used lead wire for the wiring and some rigging line for the belt.

Gecko Supacat Progress

Back to the supacat now and so far its had a few washes & filters followed by a matt coat. The load has also had some strapping added using tamiya tape. All that's left to do now is add some final weathering and then make up some ratchet straps to secure the load to the model.

Brennus All Weathered

The model is now fully weathered after adding some more dust effects to the turret. So all that's left to do is to paint the two figures and make a base for it.

Brennus Hull Done

The lower hull is now all finished and very nice it looks too. I used the aqualine common dust diluted with water like a wash on the wheels and this worked perfectly. Just the right amount of weathering without hiding all the previous work. So just the turret to finish off before I crack on with the figures.

Brennus Final Weathering

After a couple of eventful weeks I've finally got back to the bench to finish of the model. Today I've started to add dust effects using wilder aqualine common dust, light mud & dry earth. Again in a similar fashion to the Abrams I'm building up the effects in light layers in the hope I don't swamp the previous weathering and chipping.
